Writing Workshops

Led by RoL founder, Cathy Borders, we have started our own workshop. At the moment, we have a couple of seats available, but we close at ten. We meet on the first Thursday of the month over zoom from 7-9pm.

The Drink and Draft Poetry Roadshow is a traveling poetry writing workshop that meets online and in various bars, coffee shops, and other locations around the Chicago suburbs. They write together and discuss poetry and poetic practice. Facilitated by Eric Bodwell and Barbara Barrows.

The Non-Intimidating Writing Workshop run by Barbara Barrows. These are generative workshops using themes, ekphrastic, and prompts. They are hosted over zoom and there is no fee. Workshops are on Wednesday nights at 7:30pm CST. If you are interested, write us here or send Barbara a pm or email barrowsresearch@gmail.com.

Water Street Studios has started hosting writing classes! Taught by Eric Bodwell and Barbara Barrows, they invite you to come and explore your inner world. In this course, participants will explore four different methods for accessing their creativity and generating new writing. Check out Water Street Studio’s website to see if it’s currently on offer.

The Night Writers Workshop meets monthly at the Geneva Public Library. You’ll find the Night Writers in their events section. Led by author and teacher Rick Holinger, this workshop welcomes writers of all abilities and genres. Click below to read the guidelines and how to get in touch with Rick Holinger.

Fox Valley Writers is a writing workshop stationed in North Aurora and facilitated by Nik Markevicius. Their group is always open to new members of any skill level.

St. Charles Writers Group at the Saint Charles Public Library. The group meets twice a month and is facilitated by Lisa Macaione.

Naperville Writers Group at North Central College, at the Wentz Science Building, in room 042C. They meet almost every Wednesday night, 7 to 9 pm, via Zoom and/or in-person.

Water Street Writers. A curated reading series held quarterly at Water Street Studios.

Writers’ Networking. It’s exactly as it sounds. Come mingle with other writers at Start Something Studio in Batavia! (12 S Van Buren St.) We can talk shop, congratulate each other, gripe, plan, and hope. Coffee will be provided.

The Batavia Lyceum Association. An ongoing lecture series during the academic calendar held at the Sidecar Supper Club and presented by the Book Shop Batavia.
