Water Street Writers is a curated reading series featuring local authors from the suburbs of Chicago.
Experience Water Street Writers four precious Sundays a year.
They revolve, but are always on a Sunday in the months of September, November, February, and April.
Our Teen Show takes place in July.
Doors open at 5pm, event begins at 5:30pm.
Four readers will perform their short works of prose and poetry. We are open to any genre and all kinds of performance. All events are recorded.
The lovely Water Street Studios has generously donated their space to us and as such we encourage everyone to become a member and attend their Second Friday art openings. They’re a good time.
Readers are selected by submission. Send your best work to WaterStreetWriters@rolreadlocal.com.
Next Show is our Teen Event on July 26th

We’re now open to submissions for our Teen Event on July 26th!
Got a writer in the family? This is their chance to perform their work in front of a live audience!
Sports and dance kids get loads of opportunities to show off, writers, not so much. We’d like to take a moment to celebrate and welcome the brave young adults who’ve ventured into this world.
We are currently OPEN TO SUBMISSIONS of prose, poetry, and spoken word, or really, anything their little hearts would like to perform!
The show will be audio recorded for our archives and for the featured readers to showcase as they wish.
Please send all submissions to waterstreetwriters@rolreadlocal.com
Submissions will close on June 15th.
All submissions must take 5 minutes or less to read.
We will announce the winners (our featured readers) on June 30th.
Then, join us Sunday, July 26th, for our second annual Teen Water Street Writers Event!
Featuring the talents of ten local teenagers from all around the area!
Doors open at 5pm, show starts at 5:15pm at the gorgeous Water Street Studios in Batavia.

Everyone is welcome! Suggested donation is $5. All proceeds pay our authors, so let’s give them a good night! So please like and share and all that jazz.
In addition to fine literary entertainment, you may purchase signed copies of our authors’ books. Snacks and a cash bar will also be available.
And now there’s an Open Mic after each event! (Sans the Teen Event.) We limit participants, so arrive early to sign up! We also ask that readers keep their performances to under five minutes.
Water Street Studios has graciously donated their gallery to us, all that they ask is that we respect the art and their space. In return, as they are a nonprofit, we ask you to consider becoming members to support their unique programming. (Which includes some writing classes!)
This event is emceed by Eric Bodwell. Susan Ward Trestrail Photography will document the evening, while Kevin Moriarity will record the show for our archives and your enjoyment. Ray Ziemer, Michelle Donfrio, and Cathy Borders comprise the submissions committee.
Experience Water Street Writers four precious Sundays a year in the fully accessible main art gallery at Water Street Studios. For more information, contact Cathy Borders here or at waterstreetwriters@rolreadlocal.com.
Submissions are always open. We pick from the slush pile each and every event. Multiple submissions are okay. Our next season will commence September, so don’t miss this one!
