Writers’ Workshop
The Republic of Letters seeks to form a collective that gathers regularly with the intention of reading, aiding, and critiquing each other’s writing. Our aim is to take our time with each submission, with the goal of answering and addressing the author’s questions and concerns with their writing. The workshop will tell you what works and what doesn’t, and if the latter, we will help you unpack the reasons why, and ways forward. Through careful and constructive exposure to the process of writing, your writing can improve in dramatic ways.

Instructor Bio
Cathy Borders has been professional editor for over two decades. She specializes in finding the art inside the text. Along with those years of experience she carries with her dozens of glowing reviews. Consider this writing workshop an affordable way to work with her.
Cathy is the author of The Tarot for Writing Project: an online interlacing system that teaches writing through the Tarot, and teaches the Tarot through analogy using fairy tales, myths, classic literature, philosophy, film, and cartoons. She’s also the author of A Suburb of Monogamy: an experimental novel about the invention, withdrawal, and body of a liaison; a fictional translation of Roland Barthes’s A Lover’s Discourse. Her latest book, Robin Williams Is My Uncle, is a bricolage text on alienation and epigenetics through the lens of Robin Williams’s children’s movies. It will be out next year.
Cathy thinks of writing differently, as something much more interesting, much more important than a thing you produce for money. She offers book midwifery and story therapy through her website.
Cathy is also the founder of The Republic of Letters, an organization whose goal is to help writers connect with other writers, and ultimately, local readers. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the New School in New York and a Bachelor’s in English Lit from the University of Iowa. She lives in the forest with her husband and two daughters where she walks, writes, and runs the literary series, Water Street Writers.
