Directions for Joining the Directory

Hello! Thank you for your interest in joining the Republic of Letters!

We’ve heard from some of you that there is some sort of password snafu. And while we do apologize for any confusion, rest assured, that we are on the case to improve as much as we can as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, here is a helpful guide to working our directory.

Once you click JOIN THE REPUBLIC OF LETTERS you will go through check out and sign up. 

Once complete, there will be an automatic prompt to complete your SETTINGS.

Here, you will upload an AUTHOR PHOTO; this will appear through out the Directory as your PROFILE IMAGE.

Now, here is where things get tricky. The password situation is confusing! Inside SETTINGS it will ask you both for your new password and then current password, which is weird, because there is no current password! But! No worries! This seems to be a glitch, but there is a work-around.

Immediately, SIGN OUT then SIGN BACK IN. 

When you log in, you obviously do not have a password so click: LOST YOUR PASSWORD?

(Sorry about this, by the way. We’re working on it!!)

Now, check you email. 

It should come immediately. Once you open the password reset email, click on the link inside to reset your password. If you cannot find the email, please check your spam folder. 

From there, you are able to SET A NEW PASSWORD.

Once you’re in you’re golden. 

Now you can COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE and ADD LISTINGS.

To COMPLETE PROFILE, you must pick a category, meaning a genre group you would like to join as an author. Your individual books (“listings”) can have different and multiple categories, but at the moment, you can only choose one for your profile. Your TAGLINE is the 1-2 sentence quip that will appear under your picture in the Local Author Directory. Anyone can read your profile. Your description is your bio. 

Once your profile is done to your satisfaction, click ADD LISTING. 

You will not appear in the Directory without adding a listing. 

Why? I do not know. I’m working on this…

Each book or blog or article you would like to include in the directory needs to be a separate listing. 

All of your listings will be attached to your profile. 

After you click ADD LISTING, pick the book’s category. Then upload the cover image into the gallery. 

Add the title, author name, and then pick your genre. Here, you may pick as many genres as you like. I encourage you to click as many as apply to get your book into as many appropriate genres so that more potential readers will see them. 

After you add the description and links, then hit SUBMIT LISTING. 

Then after review, we will approve your listing and voilà! Now both your book and your profile are in the Directory!

And once your listing is approved, you can now click on SETTINGS and expand your profile. Here, is where you can add your links and social media handles, as well as make your profile fancier. 

Thanks for bearing with us through the confusion! My sincerest apologies for how unnecessarily convoluted this seems, but, alas, this is us wrestling with a template and this seems to be the best one to suit our needs. (I’m a writer not a web designer…)
