Why Join the Republic of Letters?

And when you join the Republic of Letters, you get to create an author profile in our Local Author Directory!

Your Local Author Directory profile can be completed by you at your convenience. You may include links, pictures, and videos. This profile comes with its own url which may be used as your author landing page. You can make changes at your leisure, but all profiles and changes are subject to approval. 

All are welcome, unless you’re a jerk. (Please, don’t be a jerk.)

We will use your Local Author Directory profile page to advertise your books, articles, and blogs. As such, please make sure your copy is clean, without spelling or grammatical errors. 

We also have a Member Spotlight in our newsletter, replete with links pointing our following to wherever you’d like them to go.

Sometimes, too, we pounce on unique local opportunities that would be a good fit for an individual member. Because we will do what we can to get your work seen and read.

Every winter we put out a Local Author Catalogue. As a member of the Republic of Letters, you are entitled to space within said catalogue to display your titles, your website, your event, etc.

You also gain access to The Republic of Authors, a private facebook group only for members of the Republic of Letters. In this Facebook group, you may promote and share your work and news. You may also participate in any of our author challenges and conversations, you may also initiate writing conversations on craft, technique, and reading recommendations, as well as seek advice. 

This is not a place to wax politics. There are plennnntttyyy of spaces for that. 

The news you share and promote may be shared in our social media feeds and included in our newsletter. We will try our best to promote anything you’ve got going on, but please, don’t spam us. We are a small operation and there are only so many hours in a day. Alas. 

Naturally, you do not need to be on Facebook for us to share your stuff. You may also email us at info@rolreadlocal.com, please include the word newsletter in the subject line of the email.

In the future, when you join the Republic of Letters, we would like to take copies of your books to sell on consignment at our events or at pop ups and lit fests. We are working on the logistics of such an endeavor.

We occasionally run promotions and give-a-ways, if this is something that interests you and you would like to donate a book or two, please let us know. 

We at the Republic of Letters are always seeking out new and creative ways to get the word out there. We advertise our Local Author Directory all over town in myriad ways. But we are always open to thinking outside the box and are interested in collaborations. If you have an idea, please don’t hesitate to ask. 

For $50, you may purchase a paid, targeted advertisement. 

For $50, you may sponsor a Water Street Writers event which would pay for food, flowers, and printing materials. At our author table, we will sell your books alongside our Featured Readers of the night. You will also be included and thanked in the program. 

For $50-$300, we will write about your book at length for our RoL Review. This thought piece would be like a review, but never negative. If this is something you’re interested in, we require a meeting of the minds to work out what we can do. 

If you write a review for a fellow local author that we may post in our RoL Review, then you get a free post on all our social media platforms. The more we do this for each other, the more we all win.
